Intent
Design and Technology is an aspiring and practical subject. Design and Technology encourages children to learn to think inquisitively and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team. At St Mary Magdalen’s, we encourage children to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, want and values. The children’s products have a purpose and are made using progression of skills throughout each key stage. Seaham’s past rich, industrial heritage and current regeneration developments give our pupils a myriad of opportunities to see what an important contribution design and technology has made within their local area and subsequently the wider world. To raise the profile of D&T, one topic is covered within a designated week every term and wherever possible, linked to other disciplines such as mathematics, science and art.
